Textiles

Our textiles bring softness and structure together through natural fibers like cotton, jute, leather, and wool. Every fabric in our collection is chosen for its durability, feel, and connection to artisan traditions. Whether handwoven, stitched, or knotted, these materials carry the essence of slow craftsmanship — where time, skill, and care shape every thread.

Because each item is crafted by hand from natural sources, minor inconsistencies in weave or color are part of the fabric’s story — subtle traces of the maker and the land it comes from.

Cotton

Cotton is a soft, breathable fiber grown around the seeds of the cotton plant. After harvesting, the fibers are ginned, combed, and spun into yarn. Its natural softness and hypoallergenic qualities make it a staple in both everyday and artisanal textile design. When combined with rougher natural fibers (like abaca or seagrass), it adds a gentle, tactile contrast.

  • Uses: Throw pillows, lightweight upholstery, bedding, and drapes (valued for softness and ease of care).
  • Care: Machine wash gently in cool water with a natural detergent. Tumble-dry low or line-dry to avoid shrinkage. Cotton can be ironed on a medium setting if needed.

Jute

Jute is a golden, coarse fiber derived from the outer bark of the jute plant stem. It's processed via retting — soaking in water to loosen fibers — and then stripped and dried. Jute is biodegradable, renewable, and one of the strongest vegetable fibers. Its textured appearance lends a rustic, earthy charm.

  • Uses: Area rugs, table runners, baskets, and poufs (imparts an earthy, casual vibe).
  • Care: Vacuum regularly on a low suction (no beater bar). Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth and a little mild soap – avoid scrubbing. Let jute air-dry flat if it gets damp. Avoid harsh cleaners or bleach.

Wool

Wool is sheared from sheep and then scoured, carded, and spun into yarn. It has natural crimp and elasticity, making it resilient and thermoregulating — warm in winter, cool in summer. Wool is naturally flame-resistant, water-repellent, and odor-resistant, and requires minimal chemical processing. At Vibes del Mundo, we use wool primarily in our Moroccan rug collection, hand-knotted by artisans using traditional motifs.

  • Uses: Traditional rugs, wall hangings, and woolen textiles (prized for texture, warmth, and cultural authenticity).
  • Care: Shake or vacuum gently. Spot clean with cold water and mild detergent. Avoid soaking or harsh cleaners. Air dry flat and keep out of prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Care (Beni Ouarain rug): Vacuum gently without a rotating brush or beater bar to avoid pulling on the long wool fibers. Shake out the rug outdoors to remove dust and sand. For spills, blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth — avoid rubbing. Use cold water and a mild wool-safe detergent for spot cleaning, but never soak the rug. Let it air dry flat in a shaded, well-ventilated area. To maintain its shape and even wear, rotate the rug every few months. For deep cleaning, we recommend a specialist familiar with handmade wool rugs.

Leather

Leather is a durable, flexible hide (typically from cattle) that is tanned and finished to create upholstery. It looks rich and develops character over time. We use high-quality leather for chairs, benches, and accents.

  • Uses: Upholstery on chairs, stools, headboards, and decorative cushions (adds warmth and a luxurious feel).
  • Care: Wipe with a dry or lightly damp cloth. Clean spills immediately. Condition leather once or twice a year with a natural leather balm to maintain suppleness. Keep leather out of direct sunlight to prevent fading and drying.
